The roots of Zero Flight Time Training

This promotional video was made for Rediffusion Simulation in 1981. It looks at the, then, latest generation of airliner simulators and creates a valuable record of the state of the technology at the time. The video projection techniques described were market leaders in 1981, although today would be regarded as primitive. The writer/presenter is Michael Rodd of BBC TV Tomorrows World.

When considering the latest full flight simulators, now referred to as Flight Simulation Training Devices (FSTD's), you will not see that much of a difference from what is shown in this video.  Technology has obviously leapt ahead from these days, but the advances have only been used to enhance the original concepts envisaged, and put into practice, 35 years ago.
